Die-hard enthusiasts will take to the waters of the Chain of Lakes during the 32nd Annual Polar Bear Splash at noon on Saturday. There will be a variety of activities on the island including kids' games, a craft show and tug-of-war competitions. Events throughout the weekend are centered around Tip-Up Island. The contest is for snowmobiles from 1979 and prior. Snowmobile enthusiasts can take part in the Fifth Annual Vintage Snowmobile Contest, with a $100 prize being awarded to the favorite. A $25 cash prize will be given away to the best of show. Also new to the festival this year is the Vintage Chainsaw Show. The cost for the hunt is $15 and three-member teams are allowed. New to the festival is the predator hunt, which begins with registration from 6-7 p.m. with the Texas Hold ‘Em tournament at the Quincy American Legion. The building is ready to go.” The festival will kick off today at 5 p.m. “I believe we are ready for the festival,” he said. As of Wednesday the lake had a good 6 inches of ice on it, said Fickle. ![]() The Department of Natural Resources requires 12 inches of ice for the races to take place. Ken Fickle, a member of the festival committee, said unfortunately there isn’t enough ice for snowmobile or ATV races on the lake this year. ![]() ![]() Temperatures in the single digits have formed enough ice on the Quincy Chain of Lakes this week for fishermen to take to the lake during the 51st Annual Tip-Up Festival this weekend. ![]()
